News Item: 10-year-old Girl Dies After Alleged Bullying

Jihan Salsabila, 10, a student of state-run elementary school SDN 14 Muara Enim in South Sumatra, died on Monday morning after allegedly being beaten by four of her classmates at school a few days before her death.
She was allegedly attacked by four of her male classmates on April 30 at about 9 a.m., while having a break at school.
Jihan’s mother, Erma Suryani, said her daughter complained of a pain on May 2. Erma found bruises on her daughter’s thigh and waist. She later took Jihan to school to ask for permission not to attend classes. A teacher advised Erma to take Jihan to a masseuse.
Erma said her daughter’s condition worsened on Sunday. She fainted at 11 p.m. and she was rushed to the state-run RSUD Rabain Hospital in Muara Enim for further treatment, but did not survive. Jihan died at about 2 a.m. the following day.
Violence involving children has raised concerns over the state of children in the country, with a spate of incidents in big cities like Jakarta and other parts of the country.
